From “carbon neutral” to “climate positive”

From “carbon neutral” to “climate positive”

Becoming “carbon neutral” is a goal that more and more companies have set themselves with the aim, ultimately, of not contributing with their activities to global warming.

DiCOmo is one of the companies that can define itself as “carbon neutral” having obtained the ISO 14064-1:2019 certification and having offset carbon emissions. However, he went one-step further and wanted to take the path of “climate positivity”.

What does it mean to become “carbon neutral” or, even more, “climate positive”?

“Carbon neutrality” is the result of the balance between non-excludible climate-altering emissions and reabsorbed emissions while becoming “climate positive” is a further step forward: means not only that you are able to neutralize the carbon emissions associated with your activity, but you remove even more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere than the ones generated.

Being “climate positive” therefore means not only protecting the climate through carbon neutrality objectives but also activating a series of solutions on the national local territory that can also improve air quality and protect biodiversity: not only “do less harm”, therefore, but also “do more good”.

In Italy, the initiatives born under the concept of “climate positive” are linked to our national tradition of good land management, forest certification and enhancement of services and products of nature, focusing also on Italian forestation strategies and on past April 7th DiCOmo joined and participated in an urban forestation event in the city of Nova Milanese.

This project also contributes to the following three SGD 2030 objectives:

1 – Sustainable cities and communities

2 – Climate action

3 – Life on land.

As we said before, in fact, it is not enough to do only “less harm” to the environment, but be forward-looking and do more and more good to protect the earth and us.
